A:Interesting Questions. Kentucky has always been georgrpahically a Southern state and during the Civil War it was militarliy considered a Border state. Indiana is a Northeastern state, but is considered Midwest. The Ohio River serves as the bourndry between the Northeast and Southeast Regions of the United States. Louisville and Lexington are both known for their Southern heritage and culture as a city of the old south. The Kentuckiana phrase came about during the 1950s, when the local merchants and media wanted to connect Southern Indiana with Louisville. Today, the term has spread throughout Central Kentucky area. Many Kentuckiana also moved into Southern Indiana as a result of Busing in the mid 1970s. This too, played a big part in the connection of the two states. This may explain, whu you can order sweet tea in Corydon, IN and still hear “Y’all” in a mixture of “You Guys”. Kentuckiana is a derves area and most likely one of the most unqiue placees where two states and regions are linked by one name that are seperated by a natural boundry of water. One thing, Louisville, according to Southern Living Magazine is rich with the tatse of the South-Mint Juleips, Derby Pie, Kentucky Hot Browns, Bourbon Whiskey, etc..etc… What other Southern City offers that much? So. Look over the U of L Kentuckiana Billboard and enjoy Louisville, where the South Begins!!!!!!
