Spring clean your energy centers

Feeling out of whack? Your chakras may be out of balance. Here’s how to get them cleared and ready for the rest of the week.

 

If you’re feeling out of sorts after the long winter, chances are you can use a lift. Joyce Gerrish, a holistic practitioner and teacher, is offering three free classes on energy and auras over the next three Tuesdays at Rainbow Blossom Natural Foods, 3046 Bardstown Rd. in the Gardiner Lane Shopping Center. Although Gerrish offers three classes, attendees are welcome to visit any one, two or all three.

Lunch & Learn: Lucy Higgs Nichols

Local historians Vic Megenity and Pam Peters will share an update on the fascinating details they have uncovered about Lucy Higgs Nichols. Lucy went from being a slave in Bolivar, Tennessee to drawing a pension from the U.S. government for her service as a nurse during the Civil War. In 1862 she joined the Indiana 23rd Regiment and returned to New Albany with them after the War.

Wilderness First Aid (WFA) creates a solid foundation in the basics of backcountry medical care. Started by SOLO as the “Mountain/Woods First Aid” course in 1975, it is the curriculum upon which all other backcountry medicine courses are based.

Leave No Trace Overnight Awareness Workshop

Leave No Trace is a national and international program designed to assist outdoor enthusiasts with their decisions about how to reduce their impacts when they recreate outdoors. Green Earth Outdoors, an affiliated partner and approved training provider for the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics has partnered with the Forest for this workshop. Participants will receive introductory training in the skills and ethics of Leave No Trace and the opportunity to practice them on an overnight camping trip. Workshop topics include the underlying ethics and seven principles of Leave No Trace:

Lunch & Learn: A celebration of the life of Mary Ingalls

Katie Carpenter from the American Printing House for the Blind will join us to share the story of Mary Ingalls. Mary was made famous through her sister Laura’s series of “Little House” books and the NBC television series from 1974-82. Mary lost her sight at the age of 14, and went on to college at the Iowa College for the Blind and became a writer like her sister. Visitors will have the opportunity to view a temporary exhibit about Mary and hear an audio program about her life, along with readings of her poetry. Sponsored by the Carnegie Center, Inc.
