UofL’s Kentucky Women’s Book Festival brings together readers and writers this Saturday [Books]

Many moons have passed since the fairer sex was granted admittance into intelligentsia circles.  Once relegated solely to the realms of household drudgery, craft and the timeless art of arm candy, women today have shown themselves to be a force of words and wit within the literary world.  And while I concede (and thus, likewise, cringe) that we females are indeed responsible for some of the most saccharine paperbacks known to publishing, the woman writer also has a great capability to add a level of depth to her work that echoes in fathoms unexplored by the male psyche.

Nationally-renowned writer, Sallie Bingham, returns to the Bluegrass as she presents her newest release, ‘The Blue Box: Five Lives in Letters’, exploring the dramatic life of her four times Great-Grandmother, Margaret Haskins. Catch her at The Filson Historical Society tomorrow night, Tuesday, May 15th, at 6pm.

That heady fragrance of nostalgia still lingers in the atmosphere – or perhaps it only the splendiferous balm of a dewy bouquet making its yearly cheer on the mantle.  But even with hearts still warm and gooey from the sentimental orgy of Mother’s Day (which was yesterday, friends), it only takes a handful of days – perhaps hours for some among us – for the recognition of maternal contribution to make it’s dusty march back into keepsake boxes and memory chests.  Our electric and latte-fueled lives rush us back to our own busy bubbles of work and

Participate in the East Russell Charrette this Friday and contribute personally to the growth of this historic neighborhood [Neighborhoods]

Exciting developments are in the works for the historic East Russell neighborhood, once known as "Louisville's Harlem." The Louisville Central Community Center and a variety of urban planning specialists are inviting you to take part in this process of community renewal by attending the East Russell Charrette this Friday, May 11.

Since the early 1990s, a revolution has been slowly taking place in the formerly vibrant East Russell neighborhood. This community once shone as “Louisville’s Harlem,” but suffered a decline beginning in the 1950s as residents migrated to the east and south ends of the metro region. Unemployment, homelessness, and crime burdened the area, and investment was scare.

On Wednesday, May 2, at Churchhill Downs the post position draw will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. ET and be able to be veiwed NBC Sports Network.

The majority of horses that have won the Kentucky Derby had the inside track. Upon visiting the derby's website, you can see which post positions have had the best luck.

The post positions that have succeed the most are No. 1, No. 4, No. 5, No. 8 and No. 10. After the 10th spot, the number of wins is a significant drop off.

Last year's Kentucky Derby winner came from post position No. 16, so of course it isn't impossible to win from out there, but it is much harder.

Keep an eye on which positions the top horses, such as Union Rags, Creative Cause and Bodemeister, end up being placed at. Churchill Downs

Evolution fight league “First Blood” [sports]

MMA Evolution fight league Frist Blood

It was quite and experience as the the fighters were being introduced.  The heavens opened and the hail came down. The roof of the venue is tin so you could only imagine what it sounded like.  The crowd roared only to be muffed out by  boulders falling from the sky.  Needless to say it was the best introduction that any fighter could possibly ask for.
