Cut rate official Derby swag [Downtown]

If you're one of those holiday shoppers who waits until the day after Christmas to buy your commemorative ornaments then you're going to love the Derby Festival's yard sale.

If you're one of those holiday shoppers who waits until the day after Christmas to buy your commemorative ornaments then you're going to love the Derby Festival's yard sale. Instead of trolling ebay, you can get official Derby pins from 1973 through last year plus assorted t-shirts, glasses, posters, and, of course, ornaments (cut down from $50 to $20). It's only been six weeks, but if you're already missing Derby, this is a good way to keep in the spirit at a fraction of the cost.

Elephant ears, anyone? Chow wagon opens today [Kentucky Derby]

Take a long lunch. Louisville.com says it’s okay.

If you’re so hungry you could eat a horse, step away from Churchill Downs—way away—and instead head to the Festival Plaza at Waterfront Park for all the carnival food you can handle, all the music you can dance to and all the cold beer you can drink (and keep down). The fabled Kentucky Derby Festival Chow Wagon opens today and is open daily until 11 p.m. until Derby Eve.

Mini Marathon Training 101

So, you’ve made some resolutions this year… Chances are, if you live in Louisville, the list might include running the Mini Marathon!

I am one of the thousands of people who decided to train for the Mini Marathon in 2009. It all started with losing a bet and then being unable to come up with reasons why I COULDN’T run it. Could I use to get in better shape? Sure. Will it force me to be healthier in my choices in all aspects of my life? No doubt. Do I like running in the least bit? Absolutely NOT.
