The University of Louisville men's basketball team added one player - Memphis transfer Roburt Sallie - and three new assistant coaches, including former player David Padgett on Monday.

It was a big day for the University of Louisville men's basketball on Monday.

The Cardinals picked up a transfer and three new assistant coaches UofL coach Rick Pitino announced.

University of Louisville assistant basketball coach Walter McCarty is leaving Rick Pitino's bench to join the coaching staff of the NBA's Indiana Pacers.

Walter McCarty is returning to the NBA.

Indiana Pacers coach Jim O'Brien announced the hiring of McCarty, the now former University of Louisville assistant men's basketball coach, Thursday. O'Brien previously coached McCarty at the University of Kentucky and the Boston Celtics.

McCarty has been on Rick Pitino's bench for the last three seasons.

Even though he's losing his top three scorers from this past season's team University of Louisville coach Rick Pitino isn't looking to the 2010-11 campaign as a rebuilding one.

But he's not looking at it as one in which the Cardinals will reload either.

Instead, he's looking at next season as a "rebranding." That despite the fact that UofL unexpectedly lost last season's leading scorer and rebounder (Samardo Samuels) to early entry in the NBA Draft.

Rick Pitino was surprised by Samardo Samuels' decision to enter the NBA Draft, but he is supporting the sophomore's decision to forgo his final two years at the University of Louisville.

On April 19 the UofL coach met with the media and spoke about the prospects of the 2010-11 season. That day Pitino said that he would suggest to Samuels, the 6-foot-9 forward who led the Cardinals in scoring and rebounding last season, that he turn pro after his junior year.

University of Louisville sophomore forward Samardo Samuels won't be coming back for his junior season.

ESPN.com's Pat Forde is reporting that Samuels will hire an agent and remain in next month's NBA Draft, losing his amateur status. An official announcement will likely come Wednesday, Forde said.

UK top seed in East; UofL No. 9 in South

The University of Kentucky is the No. 1 seed in the East Region in the NCAA Tournament men's basketball pairings that were released Sunday evening. The University of Louisville is a No. 9 seed in the South, while Murray State is the No. 13 seed in the West.
