We old-timers couldn't help but harken back to that terrible day-April 3, 1974-when Louisville was hit by a monster F4 twister. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Tornado hits Churchill Downs. Video included of Churchill's morning press conference regarding current damage and racing plans. News just came in that racing will resume Friday with Downs After Dark to run as scheduled.

Damage initially seems to lie through the middle of Jefferson County with Churchill Downs reportedly suffering severe damage to horse barns.
This meeting could just as well be held in City Hall's third floor men's room; nobody is expected to show up to speak. Nobody cares. Few even understand why the Jefferson County Magisterial Districts need to be reapportioned at all.
Mitch McConnell often beats Democrats by bringing guns to knife fights. But this summer he has dynamite. It may not work out.

The sad demise of a once-great newspaper. Not a pretty thing to watch.
Sources are telling Louisville.com that 50 employees have been laid off at the Louisville Courier Journal, in what seems to be a nationwide two percent staff reduction by the Courier's parent company Gannett.
