Coming into New Castle, Kentucky on a brisk night last Friday, the Louisville Central Yellow Jackets high school football team, ranked number twelve in the state of Kentucky had a lot of expectations going against the Henry County Wildcats, who currently sit at number one-thirty seven state wide.
And, the expectations were lived up to as the Jackets soundly defeated the home team, who suffered several notable injuries, with a final score of 58-0.
The deciding factor in this spectator’s opinion came down to one factor- the passing game. It’s easy to see how Central dominates their opponents when their solid quarterback can deliver the ball to a handful of receivers who are all adapt at making plays themselves. Meanwhile, the Wildcats had a strong line that cut off a great deal of the Jackets rush game, however their secondary struggled.
Central on the other hand displayed an all around game, and has been displaying this maybe under the radar at times all season. Ranked number three in Louisville, behind only St. X and Trinity the Jackets have steadily achieved a 7-1 record, losing only to the aforementioned St. X. The team will go to Hodgenville on Friday to face off against (101) Larue County. However, their biggest challenge will be on the 26th more than likely when they meet up with the undefeated (20) Pleasure Ridge Park.
Meanwhile the 2-6 Henry County will make their way to (161) Elizabethtown on Friday for a showdown of their own. They, then finish out their season at (81) Spencer County October 26th. This gives them a pair of teams who the Cats could finish strong against.
Statewide the top four teams at this point in Kentucky high school football to be contended with in order are the 7-0 Trinity, Fort Thomas’ Highlands High School whose record stands at 7-0 as well, another undefeated in Bowling Green, and rounding it out the 5-3 St. Xavier.
