Mike O’Connell, Jefferson County Attorney, announced yesterday that the sixth annual list of Delinquent Child Support Obligors is being released. This year’s list contains a total of 3,995 names of individuals who owe a total of more than $88 million in delinquent court-ordered child support to children under 18 years of age living in Louisville Metro. Readers with information on the current location of the obligors are asked to call the Child Support Hotline at 574-0821. All information is confidential.

The previous five years of publishing the list have produced location information on more than 4,000 people and collected $2.1 million in child support; with last year’s list producing more than a half-million dollars in collections.   O’Connell says that one man on the list owes $436,000, and among the seven percent of obligors who are women, the largest amount a mother owes is $61,000.

The U.S. Office of Child Support Enforcement published a list of the “best performing” and “worst performing” states, based upon the percentage of overdue child support payments collected. New Hampshire topped the “best” list, collecting 72% of child support arrearages. The “worst” average was the District of Columbia, at 37%. Kentucky, 5th from the bottom on the “worst” list, collected only 51% of overdue child support payments.
