The Rolex Kentucky 3-Day Event international ground jury accepted 57 of 58 horses presented at the first horse inspection on Wednesday, April 25 at Lexington‘s Kentucky Horse Park.

The ground jury of Anne-Mette Binder (Denmark), Michel Assaray (France), and Nick Burton (Great Britain) did not accept Llewellyn, ridden by Brittany Kart of the United States. The jury held two other horses and then accepted them when presented again.

The first awards for Rolex Kentucky 3-Day Event were also presented to Karen O’Connor and Doug Payne. They each were presented with a new pair of DuBarry boots for earning the best-dressed female and male riders at the first horse inspection. Danny Hulse of DuBarry presented the waterproof boots to them.

Payne is a 32 year old rider from Oldwick, N.J. and is competing at Rolex Kentucky 3-Day Event for the first time.

O’Connor, age 54, of The Plains, Va., won Rolex Kentucky in 1999 on Prince Panache, 1997 on Worth The Trust, 1991 on Mr. Maxwell. She will be riding two horses this weekend - Veronica and Mr. Medicott. O’Connor is hoping to make her fifth Olympic team.

The reception, held at historic Spindletop Hall outside of Lexington, also featured the annual drawing among the competitors for a Rolex watch. Peter Barry of Canada won the watch. This watch is one of two signature watches given away each year by the event’s title sponsor. The event’s winner receives the second watch at the end of the event on Sunday.
