The Arts Council of Southern Indiana will sponsor a Fiddle Fest at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 during New Albany’s Harvest Homecoming. The contest, with cash prizes, will be held on the stage at Market and State streets. The categories, divided by age, are: Under 13; 13 -18; and 18+. There will also be a non-violin open class (bass, viola, cello, etc.). Competitors will be expected three songs by memory including a hoedown, waltz, and song of choice. Contestants may play without accompaniment or with not more than three accompanists. The contestant must lead at all times; accompanists may not play the melody. To take advantage of early bird registration, competitors should send a $5 entry fee along with name, contact information, instrument and birth date to: The Arts Council of Southern Indiana, 820 E. Market St., New Albany IN 47150. The Deadline for early registration is October 1. After October 1st, the entry fee will increase to $10. Make checks payable to: Arts Council of Southern Indiana.
The judges are Emily Poe (past violinist for Taylor Swift), Rachel Blanton (renowned Irish fiddler in the Kentuckiana area), and Doug Elmore (jazz bassist and acclaimed high school orchestra director).
