Downtown New Albany is becoming a delightful day trip destination for those in search of a quieter shopping experience. The little boutiques that line and branch off from State St. are truly pleasant, and Savon Bath & Body Boutique is one of the newest of these. Savon is the local alternative to national cosmetic and body product brands like Lush or Body Shop, providing for all your pampering needs. All their bath and body products are handmade in small batches right in New Albany!
The mimosa soap at Savon is detergent free, made with goats milk and glycerin, covered in pretty curls of soap with body-safe glitter sprinkled on top. The soap really does smell like a fresh orange juice and champagne mimosa, citrus-y and bright. Other delicious-smelling soaps available by the slice at Savon are the oatmeal, honey, milk; and pineapple cilantro.
Savon's bath bombs are slightly smaller than the ones you might find at Lush, but they’re also less expensive, and they smell incredible. Also available are body butters, lotions, rosewater facial spray, sugar scrub, and other locally made products, made using natural ingredients.
When I visited Savon the other day, the owner was laboring behind a silk screen, mixing a fresh batch of her Abbey Rose body butter by hand. It’s comforting to see a product (that will go straight on your skin or in your hair) being made where you can see it, with recognizable ingredients like coconut and essential oils.
You can visit Savon at 222 Pearl St. New Albany, and occasionally at the New Albany Farmer’s Market. Check out their Facebook page for more information!
