The Louisville Bats are one of the most valuable franchises in all of minor league baseball. That’s according to a study conducted by Forbes Magazine. The Bats came in at number seven in a list of the most valuable teams in the minors.

The study has come under some scrutiny, though, as some are questioning the figures Forbes used.

“We’re not really sure where they got their numbers,” said Greg Galiette, Assistant General Manager of the Bats. “We’ve always been in the top five or ten in Minor League Baseball, that’s pretty well known. But it’s good to be recognized.”

According to the study, the Bats have a team value of $24 million. Topping the list are the Sacramento River Cats of the Pacific Coast League, valued at $32 million.

The International League, which the Bats play in, finished with eight teams in the top 20. Lehigh Valley (2nd), Columbus (5th), Toledo (9th), Indianapolis (11th), Buffalo (13th), Pawtucket (15th), and Durham (18th) joined Louisville on the most valuable list.

The Bats open an eight game homestand Thursday against the Rochester Red Wings. Thursday, fans who donate a children’s book at the ticket window will receive a voucher for a free hot dog and drink. All book collected will be donated to the Toys for Tots Literacy Program.

There will be fireworks after the game Friday and the Bats welcome Red Panda back to Louisville Slugger Field Saturday night.

Father’s Day Sunday brings an appearance by Ironman. The first 1,500 fans will receive a free Louisville Slugger mini bat. Also, after the game, fathers can play catch with their children on the field.
