Beatles and reggae festivals, Hambone set to rock Louisville on Memorial Day weekend

Abbey Road on the River May 21-25 Belvedere Festival Yes, this Beatles festival merited an article of its own already, but with it expected to draw 20,000 fans over five days, it's kind of a big deal. Bardstown Bound May 22, 5 p.m. Bardstown and Baxter Roads and some side streets What sounds like a great name for a Highlands S&M club (and how is there not one -- at least that I know of), actually features Highlands merchants offering "special sales, dining deals and drink specials." There'll be live music and a trolley service as well. Check the Bardstown Bound Web site (SFW) for a list of participating merchants that'll be hawking their wares. Kentucky Reggae Festival May 23-24 The Water Tower Yep, I already covered this event too, but I'm posting it again in case you see a giant smoke cloud this weekend and wonder about its origin. See the festival's jammin' flyer for more info. And check out this post on The Ville Voice for your chance to win free tickets. Hambone (with the Jug Huggers) May 23, 10 p.m. Gerstle's 3801 Frankfort Ave. Hambone merited an article of his own this week too, but you'd be amiss if you didn't catch him bring "the full experience" to Gerstle's Saturday night. And check out his Web site for details on his other three area shows this weekend. 2009 Mayor's Healthy Hometown Subway Fresh Fit Hike and Bike May 25, 9 a.m. Waterfront Park--Great Lawn If last week's Bike to Work Day 2009 didn't get you to forgo your car (it didn't motivate me to leave my Jeep in the garage), maybe this less succinct event will. Booths open at 9 a.m. and Mayor Jerry is set to speak at 9:55 a.m. (no word if he'll be riding -- can bicycle shirts accommodate a pocket square?). Current members of the armed services and spouses of deployed military personnel eat free at Avalon 1314 Bardstown Road The closest I came to being in the military was a brief but tumultuous stint in the Cub Scouts, so this deal probably doesn't apply to me. But if you currently serve in the military or are the spouse of deployed military personnel, Avalon is honoring you this Memorial Day with a free meal (up to $30, no booze). If you qualify, don't miss this deal -- I pay to eat at Avalon at least once a week. If you eat at the outside bar, say hi to Jennifer or Christian. (Via Consuming Louisville.) (Photo: Flickr/skpy)
