Bonnie Raitt Visits Louisville, Creates New Label; Launches Nineteenth Studio Album [Music]

After a seven year hiatus from the studio, blues angel Bonnie Raitt will celebrate the release of her new album, Slipstream, in Louisville this Sunday, May 13th at the Kentucky Center’s Whitney Hall.  The launch of the album, a semi-experimental mix of reggae, soul and blues, co shares the launch of Raitt’s own recording label, Redwing Records.  For the new album, Raitt says she wanted to try something out of the ordinary and after taking time off, went into the recording process trying to approach the album from a different angle.

The new release, Slipstream, includes the debut single "Right Down the Line," a tune originally penned by deceased folk-pop songwriter Gerry Rafferty, in which Raitt twists into a reggae-ish flavored treat as well as other musically gifted gems like the keyboard blues groove, "Used to Rule the World."   The 1950’s sounding rock anthem "Down To You" fills out the album’s cohesiveness which also embarks on different sounding tracks for "Million Miles" and "Standing in the Doorway," two tunes originally released on Bob Dylan’s Time Outta Mind album.  Why such a long anticipated wait in between albums for the nine time Grammy Award winner?  Raitt took time off from a strenuous musical life on the road to live and experience everyday joys privately due to the loss of her parents, brother and close friend. Slipstream is garnering acclaim as one of the best albums the seasoned songwriter Raitt has put out in her 40-year career as an artist.  The album comes from an emotional, narrative place and has the ability to not only tug on your heartstrings but may make you dance all at the same time as only as Bonnie Raitt can do.

Special guest Marc Cohn joins Bonnie Raitt this Sunday, May 13th at The Kentucky Center’s Whitney Hall.  The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Fifty-dollars of each ticket sold will benefit the ARIA: Artistic Resources in Action Foundation.
