NuLu is home to many new restaurants and boutiques, one of which is Taste Fine Wines and Bourbons who recently celebrated their one year anniversary in the up and coming neighborhood. Located between Hancock and Clay on East Market Street, Taste sits right in the heart of the trolley hop zone near businesses such as Garner Narrative Gallery, Wiltshire Pantry, Muth's Candy, Harvest Restaurant, Toast on Market and Zephyr Gallery. Functioning as both a wine bar and retail store, it is the only store in Louisville where you can buy wine and bourbon by the glass, bottle, or case.
As you can probably guess, Taste sells wines and bourbons. The store offers their customers a selection you'll be hard pressed to find at larger establishments like Liquor Barn. The wines are carefully curated and Paul Meyer, the owner, tastes everything before making an order. He works with many small vineyards and family companies to stock unique wines. With a constantly rotating selection, customers will be sure to find something new they've never had before including Torrontes from South America, small batch Pinot Noirs from Oregon, and Roses from France.
Meyer also carries small batch bourbons produced only in Kentucky. With around 20 different types available for tasting, it's easy to find one to please your palate. Meyer willingly spends time with new bourbon drinkers educating them about the history of bourbon and the proper way to taste it. Some of the small batch bourbons in stock include Noah's Mill, Rowan's Creek, Angel's Envy, Larceny, Lexington, Town and Branch, Willett Pot Still Reserve, Elmer T. Lee and Johnny Drum.
Each week, Taste Fine Wines and Bourbons changes out their tasting menu which typically offers ten different wines available for purchase by the taste or glass. The new wines are changed out every Tuesday and can be found on the store's website. http://tastefinewinesandbourbons.com/ Tastings average around $4 and glasses around $8. All bourbons are $5 a tasting which is one of the cheapest prices in town. Most of the bourbons in stock are available for tasting.
Stop by the store for a drink when you're down at the First Friday Trolley Hop or as a night cap after a great dinner at one of NuLu's hip restaurants. You can even come by for Happy Hour where glasses and tastings of wine are half off! Happy Hour is every Thursday from 5-7PM and is a great opportunity to grab an after dinner drink with your co-workers. With ample indoor seating and a beautiful outdoor garden, Taste Fine Wines and Bourbons is an urban oasis perfect for enjoying a drink with friends. Taste Fine Wines and Bourbons is located at 634 East Market Street. Their hours include: Tuesday-Wednesday 11AM-8PM, Thursday-Friday Noon-whenever customers leave, Saturday - 10:30-whenever customers leave.
