Currency Swap earned a berth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile as the winner of Saratoga's Grade 1 $250,000 Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga Race Course in New York. Over a sloppy Labor Day track, 68-1 longshot Trinniberg set the pace in the 7 furlong sprint for two-year-olds and carried the field of ten runners deep into the stretch.

It appeared Trinniberg and jockey Cornelio Velasquez were going to pull the upset over the 9-5 favorite, Currency Swap. Currency Swap drifted wide and struggled to find his kick before jockey Rajiv Maragh guided him to a 3/4 length victory over Trinniberg.

Third, 3 3/4 lengths behind Trinniberg, was Todd Pletcher's new trainee Big Blue Nation. Big Blue Nation broke his maiden at Churchill Downs July 3 at odds of 33-1.

Completing the field were Laurie's Rocket, Power World, I'll Have Another, Hunt Crossing, Vexor and Clip the Coupons. JC's Pride was pulled up and did not finish. Reports from the barn of Robert Barbara are that the colt appears uninjured and sound.

Currency Swap is trained by Terri Pompay, a Saratoga native. This is the first grade 1 victory for the 50-year-old trainer who began her training career in 1995. She plans to bring the colt to Churchill Downs in November for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

Currency Swap returned $5.80, $3.40 and $2.60. Trinniberg paid $32.00 and $11.40 for place and Big Blue Nation paid $5.20. The $2 exacta paid $275.50 and the $2 triple paid $1,922.
