I recently met this giant, gorgeous meathead of a guy from Tampa who was visiting Louisville for a few months. As he ordered a drink, he confided “Man, before I came to Louisville, I couldn't even stand bourbon, but it's like the second you drive into this city you start craving it.” I smiled a secret Louisville smile and sipped my own bourbon and diet, considering how this city gets under everyone's skin and into everyone's drinks.
November 12, at 6:00pm, the much beloved Maker's Mark is teaming up with Murray's Cheese, an also much beloved cheese shop that first opened its doors in New York City in 1940. Murray's Cheese recently opened several counters in Louisville Kroger stores, and to celebrate this momentous inroad into the cheese market here in Kentucky, Murray's, Maker's Mark, and Proof on Main are throwing a cheese and bourbon tasting at the 21c Hotel Atrium Gallery, at 700 West Main Street.
Bill Samuels Jr. of Maker's and Murray's cheesemongers will offer bourbon and cheese pairings and bites from Proof on Main. The cost of entry is a $10.00 donation to Dare to Care food bank; so you get to eat cheese, drink bourbon, nibble gourmet appetizers, and feel good about yourself, all in one event. You can purchase tickets online here or at the event.
