Ed Black put on a fantastic comedy showcase at the Bardstown on Saturday December 18. The line up included Ed Black, Stewart Askew,  Todd Merriman, and Lexingtonian Mike Thompson. Black opened with a strong set and put the  line-up   together exceptionally well, building to a great climax. Askew painted hilarious pictures with his storytelling, and the introduction of Batman saving him from an embarrassing sexual encounter is one I will giggle at for years to come - probably at the most inappropriate times where everyone will stare at me and wonder what's wrong with me. I can't help it. There's just always something wonderful about Batman showing up - especially to rescue you at such a funny moment.   Everyone was funny, but Merriman was a heavy hitter, and I was worried for a moment that he had laughed the audience out before the headliner (Thompson) took the stage.   There was no need to worry. Thompson's humor is a slow burn, and before you realize it, you've had too much and lost all control of your laughter. He's pretty brilliant. I haven't enjoyed a comedy show that much in a long time. Black has been performing and producing comedy for 9 years in Louisville, and this is probably the best  show I've seen him put together.  Even better: it was free.  He has shown tremendous growth in his abilities to produce in the last two years. I look forward to seeing more line ups of this caliber.
