With spring comes Daylight Savings, the rebirth of long, sunny days, spring cleaning, gloriously green leaves, and all the more excuse for some sensational Comfy Cow ice cream. And what better way to celebrate the end of our seemingly never-ending polar vortex than with The Comfy Cow seizing some prime-time real estate. They aren’t saying out with our old loved Comfy Cow locales, but are saying in with the new. Say hello to 1449 Bardstown Road, for this spring, Heine Bros passes its enchanting baton to another Louisville favorite. And as your resident Comfy Cow writer and full-time ice cream lover, I just had to share this marvelous news. Time to celebrate, fellow sweet-tooth comrades!
According to Insider Louisville, Comfy Cow owner Tim Koons-McGee said, “As soon as I got the call that it was available, I said we’d take it.” Both he and co-owner Roy Koons-McGee are “…really excited about this new location.” Well, sirs, you aren’t the only ones. This is going to be really fantastic for Bardstown Road, where some of the best adventures and memories have taken place. And as if the Koons-McGees were Aladdins of sorts with the key to the city, they have called upon their genie, Don Doyle. Insider Louisville indicates Don Doyle assists as their franchise consultant, a wise choice as Doyle at one point directed thirty Qdobas. Of his part of the franchise, guess which of the thirty Qdobas had the most activity? The one that faces directly across from 1449 Bardstown Road. That’s right: the future home of The Comfy Cow. “I think that says something,” Koons-McGee said. “And did I say we’re excited about this location?” Burrito haven followed by ice cream heaven? I can just see it now. There will be plenty of excitement (and ice cream) to go around.
And to go along with the theme of spring rejuvenation, according to Insider Louisville, “This space will be a little funkier and edgier to fit the neighborhood. We’re having some graffiti artists do some work. … Since each one of our spaces lends itself to an interpretation of the cow, it will be cool.” I already want to take a picture there with my friends! Comfy Cow, you always know how to make me love you even more than before.
Speaking of photo fancy, Koons-McGee’s secret plans were foiled by our awesome large city’s small-town charm where everyone knows everything that could possibly be going on. “We were going to take pictures and see if anyone could guess the neighborhood, things like that,” he said. He chuckled, “It was going to be fun, but since this town is full of people with loose lips, that’s all blown now!” Sorry, but when it comes to frozen treat dreams being made, we Louisvillians are on top of things. We can’t help being all abuzz!
And neither could all of the potential inhabitants of Heine Bros no-longer-for-sale spot. When Heine Brothers decided to share some Bardstown Road limelight as there is already another in the franchise that is in close proximity, the phone was ringing off the hook. Now the only sound is of The Comfy Cow hard at work to make this location uniquely its own. According to Insider Louisville, Koons-McGee said, “Heine Brothers’ last day is March 16, so we’ll start working right after that.” The goal? Be Kentucky Derby-ready. Ten fresh ice cream employees need to be appointed and instructed in Comfy Cow’s magical ways in addition to the execution of plans for interior design. We believe in you, Comfy Cow! Nothing will pair better with Derby frenzy than some of your innovative, cold, creamy dessert delights. Springtime is perfect to make your move.
Count me in for some new Comfy Cow. Only seven days until 1449 Bardstown Road is reborn as a beloved ice cream parlor. Is it Derby-time yet?
