...to new music!
Cropped Out, a local group which organizes shows year-round, often bringing touring acts to Louisville in addition to hosting local bands, presents its third annual festival this weekend, with two full nights of music (and comedy!) and an intimate wrap-up party on Sunday. The festival aims to highlight artists that are “cropped out” of the mainstream eye. The result is an awesome and eclectic collection of local, regional, national, and international artists you may or may not have heard. “We book bands that we like,” James Ardery, a festival organizer, says. “The end result is a line up full of bands that we either know personally or bands that we are fans of…Turning someone on to a band I have been privileged enough to see in NYC is also really important to me.”
This year marks a first for the festival – they have added a comedian, Neil Hamburger, as well as a hip hop/rap artist, Lil B. Other artists on the line up include TV Ghosts, Disco Doom, Lantern, Ashcan Orchestra, David Liebe Hart Band, R Stevie Moore, Papa M, and dozens of others. With the wide variety of musicians, it’s sure to be a great weekend of music, dancing, people, and potential new exposure – who doesn’t like to find a great new band to get into?
Friday and Saturday’s shows will be held at the American Turner Club (3125 River Road), which James describes as “an under-appreciated blue collar club house nestled along the banks of the Ohio.” Sunday’s closing party will be more intimate, held at a mysterious man-made “cave” called The Workhorse Ballroom, the location of which will not be revealed until the day of. If you want to see Papa M’s first show in a few years, be sure to grab a ticket and follow Cropped Out on Facebook/Twitter to find out where you need to head. It's definitely going to be a unique experience.
Tickets range from $15 for a single day pass to $65 for the full weekend, depending on the combination of nights you choose. You can purchase tickets online at ticketfly.com, or in person at Astro Black Records (930 Baxter Avenue) or Please and Thank You (800 E Market Street). Tickets can also be purchased at the door. Food vendors and trucks will be on site, as well as full bar. For more information and full line up, check out the website at croppedoutmusic.com, or their Facebook and Twitter.
