Where To Go

Today, my kids and I are spending the day downtown during the last few hours left of Jefferson County Public Schools’ spring break week. Here’s what is on our agenda for the day:

An after breakfast stop at Please and Thank You in Nulu will begin our morning. I perused the menu late last night and decided we will indulge in a treat like one of their to die for cookies and a ganache latte; my kids will most likely opt for some good ol’ plain chocolate milk.

Next we will walk down East Market Street and browse the shops and locals. A pit stop at Muth’s Candies will be needed where we will select a treat for later.

We’ll load back up in the car and head west to Main Street. Here we’ll find a place to park and check out the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft’s MakerSpace. My artsy 10-year-old will love this, as it will be a nostalgic trip down memory lane when we used to spend every Sunday at ArtSparks!

Our plan is to lunch at Luigi’s Pizzeria, located at right along Museum Row. This is a great lunch spot when you’re museum hopping. I’ve scoured the menu and I think we’ll try an authentic simple cheese pizza, which I predict will be gobbled up pretty quickly.

After lunch, we will hop back in the car and head toward the waterfront. Despite the goings-on of late down near the Big 4 Bridge, we will venture out to the river’s edge and walk some of our favorite spots: Adventure Playground, the Swing Garden, the Big 4, and give a nod and hello to Abe Lincoln.

Later in the afternoon to begin our way home, we’ll drive down River Road toward Zorn Avenue and the Water Tower. I’d like to head over to the Water Tower and get out and just walk along there, checking out the newest addition: Water Works Museum. My toddler will probably be fast asleep in the stroller by this time, so we may decide to make another day out of visiting the museum. Another add-on option for families is to then head over to Frankfort Avenue and explore the Crescent Hill Reservoir and Gate House. We spent an entire afternoon here the other day and ended that day with some play time at the playground at Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center. Hopefully we complete our itinerary, filled with things we love to do right here in our own city. We adore Louisville; it’s a great place for families!
