Day of Glass brings a sparkle to boring lunch hours [Downtown]

One of the many ways people Keep Louisville Weird is through bringing amazing international conferences here that most people never knew existed. The "we're lucky to live in this city" conference of the week is by the international Glass Art Society. Today, they're opening the doors to the secret world of hotshops and hammers with a Day of Glass.

If you like Trolley Hops, you've probably been to Flame Run or Glassworks on a first Friday night. If you were fascinated by what you saw then, today is a great chance to see behind the scenes. Louisville's unusually high number of glass artists and studios are showing off all over town. It's free, it's nifty, and it's probably in your neck of the woods. If you work downtown, this is a perfect day to grab a quick hotdog and spend the rest of your lunch hour watching hot, molten art.

Juicy Lucy at Kentucky Center for the Arts

10am-3pm

Juicy Lucy, Glassworks’ portable hot shop, will be fired up and offering demonstrations from 10 AM to 3 PM all day downtown in front of the Kentucky Center for Performing Arts steps. Opening Reception at Louisville Slugger: Beyond Broken Windows - Baseball in Glass

3-5pm

Scott Darlington and John Miller blow away the notion that baseball and glass don't play well together. Miller's outrageously large versions of ballpark food include hot dogs big enough to make Babe Ruth blush, and french fries you could swat a home run with.

Darlington's playful takes on the iconic elements of America's pastime offer a fresh, fun perspective on the sport. Don't miss this double play by two old glass-blowing buddies who want to take you out to the ballgame.

Slate Grove demonstration at Glassworks

2-3:30pm

Slate Grove, Glass Studio Coordinator at Penland School of Crafts, Penland, NC, and Glassworks artists work collaboratively blowing hot glass in the hot shop. Free

Demos at Uof L Cressman Center

Che Rhodes and the U of L students blow hot glass in a fun, interactive, and entertaining session open to the public. Free
