This past Saturday was UK day as the football team won after a substantial losing streak, the basketball team took Portland to school, and UNLV took down UNC. Kentucky took over the No. 1 position with 46 votes. The momentum in Rupp will be great as the Cats are just off a win over St. John’s where many players showed they could handle a tougher opponent. Miller will probably once again come off the bench. Miller, who put up 9 points against St. John’s, has become accustomed to his role, and is happy to help his team.
As for the rest of the line-up, they will all need to bring their A-game. Teague cannot turn over the ball when UNC pressures him at mid-court. Davis will have to protect the inside and not let UNC take the ball to the basket uncontested. UNC did not receive an initial No. 1 ranking because they waited for their opponents to goof; they went and made plays happen. If Lamb is in a slump with his outside jump shot, UK will have to overcome UNC’s defense and get the ball inside to Davis. Terrance Jones will also need to be a leader today, scrapping for the loose balls and taking opportunities to make it happen.
UNC is the toughest opponent to come into Rupp this season and this game will undoubtedly set the tone for the next series of conference games. The Cats cannot afford to wait until the second half to get it together. The sloppy starts of late need to fall to the wayside if the Cats want to take down UNC.
Tip-off is set for 12p EST and will be televised on CBS. UK IMG will air the broadcast on the radio for those who cannot find a TV set. Here’s to Kentucky blue.
