DeaFestival to Celebrate Deaf Community’s Art and Creativity

For the 11th annual DeaFestival, the “World of Pure Imagination” theme will pull together a full day of performance, art making and creativity.

The DeaFestival, August 30, at the Kentucky Center, is a celebration and showcase of art and culture by and for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Programs run in the Kentucky Center and on the Belvedere, and the DeaFestival is partnering with Louisville’s huge international festival, WorldFest, running August 29 – September 1, and featuring a parade, performances, food and shopping.

Children’s DeaFestival activities and programs include drawing for a golden ticket to tour the chocolate factory with “Willy Wonka,” storytelling, music making, poetry, dance, magic and several performances by comedians.

A gallery of visual art by deaf and hard of hearing artists will be on display through the day, and the Filmmaker’s Showcase will feature short films by deaf and hard of hearing filmmakers.

The festival is free and open to the public, and runs from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., August 30, at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, 501 West Main Street.
