Family and Connections: Sire - War Front; Dam - Black Speck; trained by Aidan O’Brien; rider Ryan Moore; owner Joseph Allen, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith.

Pros: Comes into Kentucky Derby off a win in the Al Naboodah Group UAE Derby on the Dubai World Cup card in Dubai. He was seventh in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita last November.

Cons: Lines of Battle arrived in Louisville from Ireland early Wednesday morning. As such, he was quarantined for 48 hours and did not get to touch the track until Friday morning. Having not raced for over five weeks and traveling across the world, there’s no way this horse can be ready to tackle the challenges in the Kentucky Derby.

Fun Fact: Jockey Ryan Moore won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf with Wrote when the series was held at Churchill Downs in 2011.

Analysis: Lines of Battle running in the Kentucky Derby after arriving from a trip across the world two days prior might be compared to an athlete competing in a race like the Boston Marathon after such a travel. If people can get jet-lagged, why can’t a horse?
