The Derby City Rollergirls will try to make history Saturday night.
Louisville's women's flat-track roller derby team will attempt to record the first winning season in its brief history when it takes on the Rollergirls of Central Kentucky (ROCK) at 8 p.m. in Lexington in its 2010 season finale.
DCRG enters the match with a 4-3 record and is coming off a blow out victory (141-39) over Northeast Ohio on June 26.
"Our last game of the season against Lexington's ROCK should be interesting to say the least," said DCRG coach Melissa Allgeier, a.k.a. Mel O'Drama. "We have not seen them play in quite awhile and are not sure what to expect. The last time we played them, they had a couple star players, but were still struggling to pull it together as a team. They seem to have some dedicated players now, so they could be much stronger and a greater challenge than we are expecting. I have told the girls not to underestimate them because we have no idea how much training they have been doing and how much they could have improved. We will just go into the game with our usual game plan and hope to work together as a team to defeat them and have our first winning season ever!"
They'll try to do so against ROCK at the Lexington Ice Center (560 Eureka Springs Drive) in a bout that is entitled "Painting the Roses Pink." Doors open at 7 p.m. with the match beginning an hour later. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased here.
