The Derby Festival announced a superhero theme for the 2011 Thunder Over Louisville, boasting the name “Thunder Power.” The annual firework celebration of the Kentucky Derby will be performed to different comic book superhero theme songs.
This year the festival, usually called the Kentucky Derby Festival, is dropping “Kentucky” from its title on events, merchandise, tickets, etc. A lot of questions have been raised as to why this happened, but festival organizers are assuring that they alternate using the state name and this does not mean anything about relations with the derby itself.
Thunder Over Louisville will be on April 16, 2011. Another minor change is that patrons will now need a Pegasus pin to enjoy the show from the great lawn.
