Six-Course Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 6 Supports Job Training for Low-Income and Homeless
Just weeks into the New Year, six renowned local chefs are making a resolution to support job training for low income and homeless citizens by presenting Chefs For Hope, a six-course dinner on Saturday, February 6. Chefs for Hope is a benefit for the Salvation Army Culinary Training Program, an initiative led by chef Timothy Tucker that provides candidates with training to prepare them for jobs in professional kitchens. The dinner is hosted by chef Anoosh Shariat at the Park Place dining room at Slugger Field at 7 p.m. and costs $225 per person, including tax, tip and wine pairings provided by Brown-Forman. For reservations, please call Stacy at (502) 896-0464.
“The Salvation Army Culinary Training Program provides Louisville with a valuable service that helps disadvantaged citizens become self-sufficient and produces a trained workforce for our wonderful local restaurants,” says Shariat. “We are happy to host this all-star dining event that will support the cause.”
The Chefs for Hope event will feature one course from each chef. Participating chefs are as follows:
Host chef Anoosh Shariat, chef/owner, Browning’s
Kathy Cary, chef/owner, Lilly’s
Dean Corbett, chef/owner, Corbett’s, Equus, Jack’s Lounge
Jim Gerhardt, chef/owner, Limestone Restaurant; executive chef, The Seelbach Hotel
Laurent Geroli, executive chef, The Brown Hotel
Daniel Stage, executive chef, Louisville Country Club
Since August of 2005, the Salvation Army Culinary Program has helped train over 70 homeless and low-income citizens to enter the workforce in the restaurant and hospitality industries. Chef Tucker conducts classes at the Center of Hope, where he is also responsible for feeding 400 people daily, developing relationships with local farmers and program supporters, catering and tending the center’s on-site gardens that supply much of their herbs and produce.
