As a wellness coach and member of the Downtown YMCA, I meet all kinds of people, from all walks of life, with vastly different reasons for walking through the front door every day. Some are trying to lose fifty pounds; others are trying to gain it. Some come to run when it’s raining outside, some come to relax with a yoga class. Some come for the free coffee.
What they all have in common is a daily choice—do or don’t—when it comes to working out. Here’s three comments I heard via shameless eavesdropping and jotted down to share on the Healthy Heart Beat:
“Man, you have to work hard to get results. But when your body says to slow down, you gotta slow down—it’s when you want to slow down every day that you need that mental push.”
“Yeah, I run marathons, and yeah, that’s a little crazy to some people. I want to try everything. I mean, you’re given this gift of life—you can either use it or sit on your duff.”
“I know I’m out of shape right now, I need to lose about 80 pounds. I didn’t get this way overnight, though, and I don’t expect it to come off tomorrow.”
