It's probably a good thing that the 2010 version of The Eagles will be here in town to open the new KFC Yum! Center on Saturday night October 16th and not the 1975 Eagles. Chances are a band with members in their early 60s is less likely to indulge in too many mayhem-inducing excesses that may blemish the pristine backstage area of the new arena.

Although the band has only released one full CD of new material since The Long Run in 1979 (2007's well-received double disc Long Road Out of Eden), they remain a very viable touring act, having maintained their longtime lineup of Don Henley, Glen Frey, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit, who joined the band after Hotel California. In short, the 2010 version is no bunch of replacement look-a-likes.

They still successfully play arenas and treat fans to the hits many people grew up with in the '70s. Their catalog has been firmly cemented into the pop culture consciousness of our country. Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) has sold more than 29 million copies and is often cited as the best selling album in U.S. history. In addition, each member has enjoyed solo success with Don Henley topping the list with '80s classics like Boys of Summer and The End of the Innocence.

Having a band as high profile as The Eagles open a new arena adds excitement to the whole inaugural event buzz in town. There is, of course, always the uncertainty of how a new venue will perform acoustically. When Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band christened Indianapolis' Conseco Fieldhouse in November 1999, the band's performance, but it did leave something sonically to be desired. Hopefully, "The Bucket" will have none of those problems.

The Eagles have been supporting Long Road Out of Eden on and off since 2008 and still seem energized. For the price of tickets, fans certainly hope they will remain at the top of their game Saturday night. Ticket prices are $180, $115, $68, and $37. For ticket information see the KFC Yum! Center site.
