Where To Go

Nine months ago, it seemed

the end of the record for ear X-tacy

. The community rallied, the store moved to

smaller but brighter new digs

just south of the Douglass Loop—and, 25 years into its life, the nationally famous independent music shop seemed revitalized and poised for many more years of success. However according to owner John Timmons, the troubles are nowhere near over.

“We need to save ear X-tacy,” Timmons said in a video released today on the

store’s website

. “We’ve been honest with you from the beginning and feel the need to do so again. Moving to the great new location was the first step, but it’s simply not enough.” He cited competition from digital download outlets and national big-box stores that threaten to close down smaller, community businesses such as “our little independent record store.”

“We are in danger of closing the doors now, more than ever,” he said.

Timmons reminded viewers of the store’s history of support for local acts, and that fewer tours and concerts would come to town without the support and promotion of the landmark store. "Imagine a Louisville music scene without ear X-tacy," he said. “Where else in Louisville have you been able to see bands like MMJ or the Foo Fighters for free, up close and personal?”

Timmons asked—and asks—everyone watching the video to send it along to ten friends and encourage them to get the word out as well. “We need you now. The next few months will determine the future of ear X-tacy.”

Ear x-tacy, in case you haven’t been there recently, is located at 2226 Bardstown Road. There is plenty of parking in back. Their number is 452-1799.
