Between a twenty-three minute fireworks display and the anticipation of the most exciting two-minutes in sports, it's easy for Easter to creep up on us in Louisville. Let's face it, holy week sometimes takes a back-seat when you live in the Derby City. With hats, hand-bags, and horses on the brain, it's hard to honor the bunny that inevitably will be coming to town next Saturday. Eggs will need to be boiled and dyed, their counterfeit cohorts stuffed and hidden, colorful baskets will need to be resurrected from their silent tombs, hordes of Peeps will need purchasing--this is no Derby Festival event.
If you're like me, and you need to get in the Easter spirit before it passes us up, check out some of the following Easter events around Louisville.
Blow Your Own Egg at Glassworks: Children ages 7 and up can capture their own breath inside a beautiful keepsake that will outlast the entire Easter-basket-candy stash. Space is still available for the April 22-23 sessions ($40). Registration is required at Louisville Glassworks.
Northeast YMCA Easter Egg Hunt: The 19th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Bellevoir Mansion will be held next Saturday, April 23 beginning at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $3 and includes a visit from the Easter Bunny, Easter candy, games, prizes, and of course, the hunt (12:00 p.m.). RSVP by calling 425-1271 if your crew plans on attending.
Frankfort Avenue Easter Parade: The 19th annual parade on Frankfort Avenue, hosted by the Frankfort Avenue Business Association, will begin at 11:45 in front of St. Mark's Episcopal Church (2822 Frankfort Ave.) and will travel from Kennedy to Haldeman Avenue. Onlookers can expect free candy and cheer to rain from floats and to catch a glimpse of antique cars, the Black Cat Jazz Band, the Bubble Truck, local dance teams, and more. Bring your Easter baskets to fill with treats and the Bunny is also scheduled to make an appearance. The Trolley will run along the Avenue after the parade until 2:00 p.m. Call 419-6159 for more information or click here.
