The other night, my husband and I met up with some friends at Habana Blues in downtown New Albany. I had heard so many great things about their food and wanted to try it for myself. Habana Blues is a Tapas restaurant run by two Cuban immigrants, Leo Lopez and Rafael Hernandez.
For a Sunday night, the place had a pretty good size crowd and we were able to enjoy the cooler weather and sit outside on the back patio. Our party of four shared two pitchers of Mojitos and six small plates. Their Mojitos are some of the best I've ever had. They create their mix in house and at $25 a pitcher it's quite a bargain!
Our tasting menu included:
Guacamole con Chicharritas - avocado dip served with plantain chips
Tostones Rellenos - three plantain cups stuff with ground beef, Chicken Ropa Vieja and ceviche of the day
Datiles Rellenos - goat cheese, honey and Spanish chorizo stuff dates wrapped in bacon
Chimichurri Steak - grilled skirt steak served with Chimichurri sauce and sweet potato fries
Patatas Bravas - fried new potatoes tossed in a spicy sauce
Calamares Fritos - breaded and deep fried squid served with sweet chili sauce and avocado lime aioli
All of our food was delicious and we had exactly enough food to share. We didn't have any room left for dessert but I've heard they have the best coconut flan. Our plates had small portions except for the Guacamole and Tostones which were much larger. The majority of the Tapas dishes are in the $6-9 range and a great price for the quality of the food you receive. We had great service as well and I plan to go back and try some new items off of their extensive menu that also includes sandwiches and paellas.
