The Floyd Theater presents 'Celeste & Jesse Forever' and 'The Expendables 2' [Mo

The year marches on. Already we have passed the halfway mark of October; it is shocking and sad to realize that, before you even realized it, your favorite month is over halfway done. When times are tough, some people drown their sorrows in alcohol, or ice cream. I find that what works for me, if it's nighttime, is popping a melatonin capsule and watching a few episodes of the hilarious Adult Swim cartoon Home Movies. Or, of course, I go to the movies. (I can highly recommend The Perks of Being a Wallflower.) Speaking of, what's showing at the Floyd this week?

U of L's cozy campus theater presents, first off, two screenings tonight (Thursday) of Celeste and Jesse Forever. Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg star as the title characters, a couple who are married but separated, on their way to divorce – and yet still best friends who hang around each other all the time. Convinced they are over each other romantically, things become complicated when they decide to start dating other people. Celeste and Jesse Forever plays this evening at 5:00 and 8:00.

Let's say you're a Hollywood studio executive and you want to make an action movie. Action movies sell – but how can you be sure? Simple: just cast every single action star in the same movie, and voila, money! Thus, The Expendables 2, starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Liam Hemsworth, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. What's it about? That's not the point! It's about guns, knives, and explosions, and you can see it all on Friday and Saturday at 5:00 and 8:00.

The Floyd Theater is located on the third floor of the Student Activities Center on the U of L campus (look for the clock tower). Admission is $1.50 for students and $3.00 for the general public. Further information can be found at the SAB Film Committee Facebook page.
