It is another week in the ongoing spring semester, and all the young'uns are hard at work, studying away, earning that expensive sheet of paper that we were promised in high school would open All The Doors In The World to us but really won't do anything to get you out of that serving job you've been working at all these years. But let's not think about that – we have distractions from all this in the form of movies at the Floyd Theater, the University of Louisville's premiere movie theater for cheap yet comfortable viewing.

It starts today, Thursday, with the continuation of the French Film Series at U of L. The film is Outside Satan, directed by the controversial Bruno Dumont. Specifics are vague, but the plot is pretty succinctly summed up on IMDB: “In a village on the French Opal Coast, a drifter engages in a perplexing relationship with a young woman who has suffered abuse.” There you have it. This film is free and will be screened at 5:00 and 8:00.

Friday, the Floyd is showing Knocked Up, Judd Apatow's follow-up to The 40 Year Old Virgin. Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl star as Ben and Alison, respectively, a couple who drunkenly hook up at a bar one night and receive quite a surprise several weeks later: Alison is pregnant. (Note: I have seen this twice, once before an accidental pregnancy and once after, and take it from me, the film is much funnier if you have been through some of this yourself.) Knocked Up screens at 5:00 and 8:00.

Saturday brings screenings of Apatow's new film, This is 40, marketed as the “sort-of sequel to Knocked Up” (the word is “spin-off,” isn't it?). It takes place several years after the event of the former, focusing on the story of Pete and Debbie (Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann's characters). They are 40 now (surprised?) and dealing with the perceived beginning of the end. This is 40 screens at 5:00 and 8:00.

The Floyd Theater is located on the third floor of the Student Activities Center on the U of L campus (look for the clock tower). Cost of admission to the Apatow films is $1.50 for students and $3 for the general public. Complete information can be found at the SAB Film Committee Facebook page.
