Before football season news [Sports]

The sports community has been biting its collective nails all summer: will there be a football season? I have some buddies myself that have woke up in a cold sweat yelling about how they need Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning in their life.

The uncertainty surrounding the NFL’s full season this year, is leading many to look toward the college football season. And, Wave 3 reports that September 17th’s Louisville-Kentucky game has already been signed for national broadcast from ESPNU. That game will be played in Lexington this year, and has a kickoff time for 7:00.

Louisville’s season opens September first in Louisville when they will square off against in state rival Murray State, where as Kentucky will begin their season that same day in Nashville against another in-state rival, Western Kentucky.

So, everybody calm down there will be at least some pigskin this year, in addition it would appear very likely that the pro-season will occur with only minor scheduling modifications, if any, this information coming again from Wave 3.

In the midst of the basketball season though, I highlighted the athletes from Louisville and Kentucky that were in the basketball hall of fame, but because the football hall has inducted fewer athletes both schools currently have only one hall of famer, ironically out of the rival American and National leagues.

Louisville is represented by “the golden arm” of the then Baltimore Colts, Johnny Unitas. During his stint in the pros, Unitas won three NFL championships, and has since been named the quarterback for the “all-century” team.

Representing Kentucky is “the grand old man” George Blanda, who won three AFL championships as a quarterback and kicker. The first two coming with the then Houston Oilers, the later with the Oakland Raiders who went on to play in Superbowl II where they lost to the Green Bay Packers.
