Warning: one of the lamest, most predictable introductory sentences you will read in an article anywhere follows. It's hot. We all know that. So why not chill out with some cool jazz?

Well you can do just that Sunday night at Fourth Street Live! when contemporary jazz and R&B band Pieces of a Dream headline a free concert. Local band Unlimited opens at 7:00 with Pieces of a Dream set to take the stage at 8:00. Hit singles like Mount Airy Groove and (appropriately enough) Warm Weather are a good bet to make the set list as are songs from last year's release Soul Intent.

Lauded by Count Basie, mentored by Grover Washington, Jr., and collaborators with Eva Cassidy, the Philadelphia band has worked with an impressive group of artists. If the 1986 album Joyride had never been released with its distinct percussion, slap bass, and upbeat vibe especially found on songs like Say La La, there arguably very well may not have been the soul-pop-hip-hop chart topping of the early 1990s that included hits like Shanice's I Love Your Smile and High-Five's I Like the Way (The Kissing Game).

Despite their ability to groove with a fusion jazz sound that effortlessly mixes in soul elements - think Spyro Gyra meets Anita Baker - Pieces of a Dream may be best known as purveyors of smooth jazz. Songs like Acquainted With the Night, Knikki's Smile, and The Cool Side all feature sleek saxophones that provide a soundtrack to romance. The band features keyboardist James Lloyd and drummer Curtis Harmon.

Fourth Street Live! is located on Fourth Street between Liberty and Muhammad Ali Boulevard in downtown Louisville. After the show, you can partake in even more music at a variety of bars and nightclubs including the HOTEL nightclub, Angel's Rock Bar, Saddle Ridge, and Howl at the Moon.
