SCORE was previously known as the Service Corps of Retired Executives, but is now recognized as SCORE, "Counselors to America's Small Business." It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides free business mentoring services to entrepreneurs in the United States.

On its web page, Louisville SCORE answers a question readers might be asking:  “How can something so great be so FREE?”  Well, Louisville SCORE explains that it is a “resource partner” with the U.S Small Business Administration, and its sole mission is to help grow the local economy and see Louisville’s citizens succeed.  SCORE is wholly dedicated to aid in the formation, growth and success of small businesses. Louisville SCORE provides absolutely free client-driven counseling for new and established small business owners, and provides managerial and operational support, through counseling as well as through in-depth seminars and enlightening workshops.
