You know about Shakespeare in the Park, the cornerstone of summer theatre and Kentucky Shakespeare’s flagship.
But this year, you don't have to wait until summer to experience Shakespeare.
This spring, under the leadership of new Producing Artistic Director, Matt Wallace, Kentucky Shakespeare is spreading its wings beyond the boards of Central Park.
While preparation for the summer season continues in earnest (the first of three 2014 productions, A Midsummer Night's Dream, opens June 11) KY Shakes has developed a 90-minute traveling production of Hamlet, which the company is bringing to Louisville-area parks each weekend from now through May 18.
“This is an exciting piece of the transformation of Kentucky Shakespeare. We are dedicated to bringing free, accessible, professional theatre to our community, and we are thrilled to branch out to new neighborhoods,” says Wallace. “This touring production of Hamlet is the kick-off to our upcoming summer-long festival for the city of Louisville.”
The productions are sponsored by the Fund for the Arts, members of the Metro Council and the mayor of Lyndon and feature well-known local, professional actors..
The next performance of Hamlet will be this Saturday, April 19th at 6:00PM in Highview Park. Boss Hogg's BBQ Food Truck will also be at the park.
All performances are free and open to the public.
