Tonight at the Kentucky State Fair, Heaven Hill will host the 29th annual Evan Williams Straight Bourbon Whiskey Cooking Contest, in which amateur cooks will compete for a Blue Ribbon prize.  Judges will include Sarah Fritschner of Louisville Farm to Table; Jason Brauner of Bourbons Bistro; Albert Schmid of Sullivan University; Michael Veach of The Filson Historical Society; Fred Minnick Author of Whiskey Women; and Denny Potter of Heaven Hill Distilleries.  The contest will take place from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Gourmet Garden Culinary Stage, South Wing Lobby A.

August 18 is Master Distiller Night at Haymarket Whiskey Bar.  This month’s guest will be the crew of Copper and Kings Distillery in Butchertown.  The event is free and open to the public.  It will start at 9 p.m.  Click here  for more details.

August 21, Moonshine University will host Sullivan’s Albert Schmid, author of “The Kentucky Bourbon Cookbook.”  Schmid will lead a two hour class on pairing and cooking with bourbon.  The cost is $39 per person.  Click here for more details.

Also in Moonshine University News, the Bourbon Enthusiast’s Bourbon Making Class will be held on October 17.  This all-day class includes breakfast and lunch and takes the bourbon enthusiast through all the steps of bourbon making.  Participants will mill grains, cook mash, and fill barrels, all while learning about bourbon’s unique history.  The cost is $395 per person and spots fill up fast.

August 21 at 7 p.m. at Bourbon Barrel Foods, St. Charles Exchange's Sean Thibidoux will lead a class on bourbon cocktails.  Click here to register.

August 22 at Yew Dell Gardens, the South Oldham Rotary Club is hosting a bourbon tasting.  This is a beautiful venue for sipping bourbon, and at only $60 per person it is a great value.  Click here for more information and to purchase tickets.

August 28 at 6:30 p.m., Varanese will host a Bourbon and Broadway dinner.  The cost is $55 per person and each course will be inspired by a Broadway play on the roster for this season.  Click here for more details about theater season, and call 502-899-9904 for reservations to this event.
