Frostbite 5K this Saturday

Print
Veteran runners and New Year resolution makers alike: come on out to Cherokee Park at the Rugby Field, this Saturday, January 16th, at 9:00 a.m. for the Frostbite 5K! Sponsored by Fleet Feet, the Frostbite 5K is the second leg of the Polar Bear Grand Prix, which also includes the Reindeer Romp 4K in December as the first race, and will finish with the Snowman Shuffle 6K in February. Registration ends this Wednesday and your $25 entry fee includes a long-sleeved technical race shirt. While this race is not one of the races included for “official” mini-marathon training, it can be a great first experience for those trying the mini for the first time this year.Runners will get the idea behind running with/against others, timing themselves and the general experience that comes with an organized race. In talking with Jeff Wells, owner of Fleet Feet, he recommends the following for beginning runners and those who are looking at training for the mini “Novice runners doing the mini should give themselves at least 12 weeks to train. Start slow and build up gradually, never increasing more than 10 percent per week. Make sure to get fitted for shoes, socks and inserts at a specialty running store. Remember to always include stretching and hydration as part of your routine. And, most of all… have fun!” For more information, please vist: http://www.active.com/running/louisville-ky/frostbite-5k-2010.
