Future U of L point guard claims Derby City Classic MVP [sports]

All eyes were on University of Louisville recruit Terry Rozier Friday night at the Derby City Classic at freedom hall and he certainly didn’t disappoint. The 6’1” Cleveland point guard scored 16 points on 3 three pointers and collected a remarkable 12 rebounds as he led the White team to a 130-127 victory over the black team. Rozier earned MVP honors for the 29th annual Derby City Classic due to his instant activity. Terry came out eager and aggressive by drilling the long ball, pushing the pace in transition and feeding his teammates in their sweet spots on the floor.

There was some local flavor in the Derby All Star game. Trinity’s  Nathan Dieudonne (white team) and Moore’s MeKale Mckay (black team) were late additions to the rosters. Dieudonne who is headed to Boston University, scored 8 points on 4-7 shooting. Mckay who will play both football and basketball at the University of Arkansas scored 9 points.

As expected the game was fast paced with a lot of dunks and plenty of turnovers. Defense wasn’t emphasized until the fourth quarter and the game came down to the final possession where the black team missed a 3 pointer to tie it.

Marcus Smart headed to Oklahoma State won the dunk contest.  Phil Forte also headed to Oklahoma state won the three point competition.
