Get ready to audition for the Louisville Youth Orchestra [Music]

Print

A lot of people were excited to hear about the upcoming My Morning Jacket concert featuring the Louisville Youth Orchestra – also one of the first shows to christen the brand new KFC Yum! Center Arena on Friday, October 29, 2010. Even better news is that if you or one of your talented youngsters (through age 21 years old) plays any orchestral instrument, you can get a lot more involved than just buying a concert ticket.

Auditions for the LYO’s 52nd season will be held in late August and early September. There are four orchestras of varying ability levels with players ranging in age from five to twenty-one. The orchestras are Serenade, Concert, Repertory, and Symphony. There is also a percussion ensemble and, new this season, is the Horizons Ensemble for wind and brass. The LYO is one  of the largest youth orchestras in the nation based on metropolitan size with total membership over 350.

Those interested in scheduling an audition should first fill out the application form on the LYO site where you can also check out information on deadlines and fees.

If you would like to audtion, have a solo prepared of approximately two minutes in length and be ready to play selected scales. See the LYO site for more information on the LYO and auditions.
