Getting cultured in Shelby County

Romeo and Juliet gets a down-home, not-quite-prepared treatment in An Evening of Culture, which Shelby County Community Theatre will present beginning Friday.

An Evening of Culture performances will take place on May 31, June 1, 7, and 8 at 7:30 p.m. each night.  Matinees will go on June 2 and 9 at 2:30 p.m. each day.  All shows will happen at Shelby County Community Theatre, located at 801 Main Street in Shelbyville, KY.

Tickets for each show are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens 62 and over, and $10 for students.  Tickets can be purchased via phone at 502-633-0242.

An Evening of Culture brings forth a group of colorful characters in an area of the south known as Faith County.  Here, bee-hives are still in fashion, tractor pulls bring out the crowds, and some of the county's more colorful folk are putting on a production of Romeo and Juliet.

There's only a few minor problems, however.  Namely, the set's not complete, a dog keeps barking close to the stage, and no one really knows their lines.  The show will go on, regardless.

Mark Landon Smith created An Evening of Culture, which Donnie Hagy directed.

More information on the show can be found at the Shelby County Community Theatre website.
