Snow lovers, if you're feverishly checking the sky and weather radar like I am, get ready! With a predicted Saturday low of 32, high of 36, with an 80% chance of precipitation (I'm counting on you, Kevin Harned!) Louisville Metro Parks is gearing up for this season's first weekend of…SLEDDING! If you're swooning, read on!

Metro Parks has already chosen its best and safest sledding hills for the season, and are at the following parks:

    Cherokee Park
    George Rogers Clark Park
    Joe Creason Park
    McNeely Lake Park
    Riverview Park
    Tyler Park
    Charlie Vettiner Park

By visiting these specific parks for sledding, kids are parents can be assured Metro Parks staff will be available at the designated sledding hills with first aid kids and the ability to contact emergency services, in case of an injury. And, if conditions are appropriate, bonfires will be lit and maintained to warm little kittens with wet mittens (i.e. your kids).

If you plan to take your kids sledding, please review the rules, and make sure your kids know the rules to help keep everyone safe:

-Sledding is permitted only when the "Sledding Hill Open" sign is displayed.
-Sledding hours are from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., as long as there is enough snow to protect the ground.
-Park is designated parking areas to protect your car from damage.
    -Only park on pavement.
-Drinking alcohol is allowed in metro parks.

For more information, and other safety tips, visit Winter Sledding at Metro Parks.

The word on Kevin Harned's weather blog is that the National Weather Service will issue a Winter Weather Advisory this afternoon. And, before it gets here, it might be a good time to run out for snow pants, for SLEDDING!
