In the highly recognizable musical, Tracy wins a spot on the local TV dance program, "The Corny Collins Show" and, overnight, is transformed from outsider to irrepressible teen celebrity. But can a trendsetter in dance and fashion vanquish the program's reigning princess, win the heart of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a television show without denting her 'do? Only in Hairspray! Featuring the tony award winning numbers, “You Can’t Stop the Beat”, “Good Morning Baltimore”, and “Welcome to the 60’s”.
Winner of 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, this production features an extremely talented cast of young actors, including leads Sydney Magers who played the lead at the International Thespian Festival, and her co-star, Youth Performing Arts School grad Chad Broskey, who recently has returned to Louisville after spending time in Los Angeles, where he appeared on such TV shows as Misguided, Scrubs, and several other TV shows and films. Hairspray is directed and choreographed by Matthew Howe, who has a 25 year career as director, choreographer, musical director, teacher and performer in Canada, the USA and abroad. From 1997-2007, Matthew directed, choreographed, and taught with the Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis, where they were awarded a regional Tony Award under his direction. Currently he is the Director of Music at Pacific Christian School in British Columbia and a freelance director and teacher.
A picnic fare will be offered prior to each production, featuring Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, BBQ Pork Sandwiches, Ice Cream, Beer, Wine and Mixed drinks on the Belvedere of The Kentucky Center. Mix and mingle with the cast after the performances at the East Room Bar of the Kentucky Center, where drink specials and late night bites will also be available. Casual is always encouraged, it’s summertime!
