Halfway to Forecastle a moving night

Last Saturday at The Pointe, there was an up-beat, and down-beat, feeling in the excitement and anticipation for the upcoming Forecastle Festival. The entirely electronic schedule at the mini-fest was a departure from the eclectic scene of the namesake festival, but was, nonetheless, a truly entertaining one. Part rave, part underground hip-hop show and completely for a good cause, the Halfway to Forecastle Festival provided a stage to not only remind Louisvillians that the real deal is only months away, but served by donating proceeds to the Surfrider Foundation whose mission is to enhance the world’s beaches though conservation and information.  Winding through the spaces at the converted, and currently under-construction, former warehouse (which only added to the feel), The Pointe, were three stages featuring up-and-coming djs and established acts that pounded out grooves ‘to the break of dawn’. Well not exactly, but pretty close. My favorite was, hometown boys, The Disco Aliens who turned the dance floor into a seething mass of movement and exaltation by slicing the air with familiar breaks laid into a techno-house style. No one stood a chance, and no one stood.

Also on scene were, local and nationally renowned, Jesse Jamz, who needs no introduction, and Chicago-based headliner Kid Sister, whose style and talent, not to mention political convictions, would leave Lady Gaga going ‘gaga’. Both provided expectedly amazing performances. Other than the longer than I would like beer lines, and even longer lines to the toilets, I would consider JK McKnight’s, Forecastle founder, Halfway festival an overwhelming success. For one night, Louisville had the best danceclub in the country; only six more months until the best festival in the country.
