It took far longer than expected but upon intense diligence, a couple Searcy demanded recounts, and one Jeb Bush-esque incident the winner of the Heavyweight Title bout of local minstrels decided...but it was really and truly the fans.  Butch Rice and his band came out with combinations worthy of a young Sugar Ray Leonard (yes, I know he was ‘only’ a Light Heavyweight but work with me boxing snobs) comparison.  The arrangements were tight, the album songs came through flawlessly and I truly thought a knockout was destined.

I certainly should have known better as Peter Searcy and his band were up for the bout in equaling fitness levels.  If you have been around Louisville’s constantly budding music scene, we have all had the pleasure of watching Searcy in various stages of his craft and genre.  This latest performance proved to be typical only in the fact that it came off without a hitch.  Again the delivery was impeccable, the tunes sounded phenomenal, and a knockout was averted and even countered with equal force.

From everyone that was there and everyone I spoke to, the theme throughout the evening was just how fun the night was.  I know ‘fun’ couldn’t really do the emotions justice but all I do know is I sure hope it happens again on all fronts.

Rice’s ‘Fall for Me’ is currently being pushed on the radio, nationally, in the places like Eugene Oregon, Morehead, Aspen and of course here on WFPK, is available for purchase and certainly recommended.  Searcy’s latest ‘Fire Escape’ is also available on itunes and the same opinions abide.  Once the rematch is booked I’ll be sure to let you know, but be on the lookout for both anytime you can.
