This labor day do something good for yourself and your family with Mayor Greg Fisher’s Hike, Bike, and Paddle. A labor-day event, the Hike, Bike, and Paddle has proven itself to be one of the most popular activities in the area.

This year the event has gained such attention that in addition to the usual walking, boating, and biking annually held, a course for kayaking and canoeing as well as morning yoga and tai-chi will be added to the events festivities.

The free event welcomes all entrants, and will kick off in the waterfront/downtown areas. The actual events are set for a start time of 10 a.m., walkers will travel throughout the eastern part of Waterfront Park and dogs are of course welcome. There is also wheelchair accessibility throughout the course.

Bicyclists will also be at the Waterfront, riding to Shawnee Park with optional detours and the like. For canoeists and kayakers, they will be meeting up at Beargrass Creek on the Ohio River for a three mile course that concludes on Towhead Island.

The event will also offer kid and family activities from 8:30 in the morning at Waterfront Park. During this time the Yoga and Tai-Chi sessions will occur, as well as giveaways, and other healthy activities.

The event itself is into its eighth year and in that time has become a flagship program for the Healthy Hometown Movement. It currently takes place bi-annually on Memorial as well as Labor days.

For further info call up (502) 574-5011, by the way the next major event that the Healthy Hometown organization will be putting together is the annual Mayor’s Hometown Fall Hike through an area park. If you’d like to know a little about that call (502) 368-6856.

About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
