Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Al Green is coming to HullabaLOU Festival for a turn on the Kroger Stage next Saturday. A classic R&B singer from Forrest City, Arkansas, Green has also spent much of his career recording and performing gospel music, having become an ordained minister in 1976 after a troubled girlfriend doused him with a pan of boiling grits – a terrifying incident that might cause anyone to consider a change of lifestyle.

He had a string of hits in the 70s with songs like “Let's Stay Together,” “I'm Still in Love with You,” and “Here I Am (Come and Take Me).” With four Gold albums and one Platinum, Green has also won numerous Grammy Awards for Soul Gospel Performance and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002.

Known for his expressive voice and wide vocal range, Al Green at 64-years-old is not slowing down. His most recent release from 2008, Lay It Down, featured collaborations with Anthony Hamilton, John Legend, and Corinne Bailey Rae. The Reverend's appearance in Louisville is part of a full summer tour that extends well into the fall with dates in November.
